Common questions
- Do I need an account?
- Not to record. Recording, playing and sharing on your phone need no account. To connect to a server (Settings › Online), you first sign in with Apple; Walk4Me never asks Apple for your name or email address.
- Where are my recordings?
- On your phone, in the app's file lists, until you share them or send them to a server you've connected.
- What are "project" and "Person ID"?
- Labels used to name your files. They start as "Self" and "1", and you can change them in Settings › Online. A setup code from a server sets them for you.
- What is "Device ID"?
- For when more than one device records the same walk, such as two phones. It adds a number to the Person ID: with Person ID 1 and device 2, the recordings are named as Person ID "1-2". Leave it at None if this phone is the only one. On the Manual side you choose it in Settings › Online; a setup code sets it for you.
- How do I connect to a server?
- In Settings › Online, sign in with Apple, then choose QR code and scan the setup code you were given, or choose Manual, enter the server's addresses and tap Save. Both are kept; the one you used last is in use. Until a server is set, Online mode and Upload stay greyed out. Recordings then go to that server; its operator handles them. With a setup code, Settings shows the project and Person ID but not the server's addresses.
- Why does the app show a consent after I scan a code?
- The team that made the code asks you to agree before the app records for them. Read it to the end, then tap I agree, or I do not agree. If you do not agree, nothing from the code is kept and Settings › Online stays at Scan your QR code. Your answer goes to that team's server. Deleting the code means you are asked again if you scan it again.
- Why does the app use location in the background?
- So a session keeps recording GPS and motion while the screen is locked. It stops when the session ends.
- How do I delete my data?
- Delete recordings in the app, or delete the app. To remove your account: Settings › Online › Delete account. To remove one person from your Apple ID: Settings › Online › Delete (or Delete all for everyone). For recordings already on a server, contact whoever runs that server.
